Faure Pavane Op.50 arranged for three Flutes
Gabriel Fauré’s (1845-1924) “Pavane” was composed for orchestra in 1886 and then amended in 1887 with an ad libitum chorus using verses by Verlaine. It is one of his most performed works and exists in arrangements for a variety of instrumental combinations. In the original Fauré relies largely on the wind instruments and in particular the flute to bring forward the melodic character of the piece. The melody is set against a nearly through-going pizzicato string accompaniment.
This arrangement for three flutes gives all players the opportunity to step forward and take the lead, as well as a chance to shape the accompaniment. This edition is also equally well suited for group tuition.
