Zach Five Symphonies for Strings (Score & Parts)
Jan Zach (1699 - 1773) was a Czech composer, violinist and organist. After a move to Prague in 1724 he worked as a violinist and studied organ with Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský. He had several positions as an organist but in 1737 after unsuccessfully competing for the position of organist at St Vitus Cathedral he appears to have travelled before being appointed at Kapellmeister of the Electoral orchestra at the court of the Prince-Elector of Mainz. Following his dismissal in 1757 he appears to have travelled, through Europe without permanent employment.
Zach's works comprise a wealth of both sacred and instrumental music which transition from Baroque to the emerging early Classical style.
