Herold Etudes for Viola

Jiri Herold (1875-1934) was a Czech violin maker, music educator and violist.  He studied violin at the Prague Conservatory graduating in 1895 and after a period teaching, he became concertmaster of the newly established Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1901.  He founded the Herold String Quartet giving concerts throughout Europe before becoming a member of the Czech Quartet as violist.  He taught chamber music at the Prague Conservatory which he joined as professor in 1922.
